Just Blow

44” X 34”

Techniques: Hand painted the white whole cloth, and machine quilted this piece.

Materials: Tsukineko inks, Pimatex cotton fabric, Cotton Classic batting.

Artist Statement: As a child, I had my favorite flower, which I picked a bouquet for my mother. We made dandelion necklaces, rings, head crowns, and colored our cheeks with yellow powder. Watching the life procession of the dandelion, I still am fascinated with the beauty of the seed production. I love the fluff and chance to blow, making a fairytale wish.

This piece tells the history of Eastern Oregon. All that was available were Juniper trees on the High Desert which were used to build long fences to catch the wild horses. Many still stand after a hundred years of cold dry winters and parching summer sun.

Up a Creek

47” X 40”

Techniques: Fusible applique and machine quilting

Materials: Hand dyed fabrics, batiks, linen fabric

Challenging myself to work with the negative space, I limitted myself to using fewer colors and let the line do the work. Quilting the 'last layer' allowed me to draw and finish telling the story.

Serenity

59” x 43”

Techniques: Hand applique, machine curved piecing, precision piecing, fusible applique and hand embroidery.

Materials: cotton batik fabrics, hand dyed fabrics, pearl cotton floss, fusible web, cotton batting,

Artist Statement: As a young adult I had learned to live with uncertainty, only trusting nature. Feeling naive in the stressful civilization, I bought a secluded undeveloped acreage in the Ochoco Mountains of Oregon and built a log cabin. The cold harsh winters were beautiful. Time slowed and I discovered who I was and what was important in life. Simplicity became the factor. I found inner peace. I found strength and was forced to realize my weaknesses. Being by myself, I found I could survive comfortably in this spiritual solitude I called Home.
